Treasure HuntingTreasure maps can be randomly found while performing any of the following tasks - Digging
- Mining - including Tunneling and Surface Mining
- Fishing
- Hunting
You will receive a rare chance animation when you successfully locate a map and it will appear in your inventory. Maps have a difficulty level associated with their quality (QL) level. The map level determines the quality of the treasure to be found… along with its guardians. Once you successfully locate a map and its in your inventory, activate your compass and right-click the map to read it. You will be given vague directions to locate your treasure. Distances are reflected using the Locate Soul mechanism. (https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Locate_soul) Use a shove or pickaxe to unbury your treasure after locating the exact tile where its hidden. The treasure chest will spawn after using your shovel or pickaxe on the correct tile. Guardians will also spawn to protect their prize. Guardians are spawned with the Treasure Hunter’s name included to differentiate then from local fauna. Please kill or ask follow players to help dispatch of all guardians. Treasure chests will vanish once they are emptied; signifying the end of the hunt.

WARNING! All potential treasure hunters need to remember to start small. The creatures that ambush you when you dig up the chest get very tough as you go up in the quality of the maps.
70's and above will see champions, sons of Gump, and eventually dragons and other special creatures. The high maps are not for the weak.
I suggest you start with quality 1 maps and work your way up to see what is coming so you can be better prepared.
